3 Ways to Liven Up Your Dreary Winter Dinner Table
Whether you’re in the throes of party planning or are just looking to zhoosh up your living space, author Leela Cyd’s au naturel decorating tips, featured in her upcoming cookbook, Food with Friends ($14; amazon.com), will help you exude an effortlessly refined vibe with minimal effort. Simply follow her lead and add a few strategically positioned accents. Learn how she brings it all together with the tips below.
1. Get Glowing
Cluster multiple white pillar candles of different heights and sizes near the bar area and wherever you’ll be sitting and chatting. Cyd prefers the subtle fragrance of beeswax varieties (from $18, thelowerlodge.com), but unscented ones from Ikea work well too.
2. Bring in the Blooms
“The outdoors offers the most beautiful, effortless decorative elements,” says Cyd. “A few blossoms and greenery, or even fresh herbs, are perfect.” Scattering small tonal arrangements throughout the space is a fail-safe way to create a cohesive look.
3. Go Vintage
Antique linens, a retro vase, or even a small trinket from your travels (select one that feels harmonious in color and scale with the items already on the table) gives richness to the display. “Found objects already have a history attached, and sharing yours just makes it sweeter,” says Cyd.
