HIMYM fans: This is the news you’ve been waiting for. Almost three years after the beloved series took its final bow, the spin-off we’ve been hoping for is finally in the works—and the writers behind This Is Us are in on it.

In 2014, the original series creators wrote the pilot episode for a spin-off, How I Met Your Dad, which starred Greta Gerwig with narration by Meg Ryan, but sadly the series was not picked up. Fast forward two years and the concept is getting another shot with the help of This Is Us writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the duo are developing the pilot for a new series, How I Met Your Father, featuring a new cast of characters telling the story of how one met her eventual husband. HIMYM’s original creators are also on-board, serving as executive producers on the project.
