Alex Rodriguez made his first appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday, and naturally, he couldn’t pass up an opportunity to discuss his high-profile girlfriend (and roommate!) Jennifer Lopez.

The former baseball star described meeting the triple threat for the first time. “I’d describe it as the luckiest day of my life,” he told DeGeneres. *Cue the awwws.*

“I’m walking outside and I forget where I park my car. I have no idea,” Rodriguez began. “Someone taps me on my shoulder, and I turn around and I do not recognize this person. And it’s Jennifer, but she’s dressed up as Harlee from Shades of Blue, and she's in her jeans and her big boots. And it took me about 4 or 5 seconds. And she says ‘Jennifer. It's Jennifer.’ And I said 'Oh my God, Jennifer, you look beautiful.' I was so embarrassed and then I got a little nervous.”

After discussing what they were up to in L.A., Lopez told him to get in touch. “She says, 'You have my number, reach out.’ And I went home that night and reached out."

Although seemingly straightforward, Ellen had some qualms about the story, insisting Lopez told a different version when she was on the show last April.

To get to the bottom of it, Rodriguez called Lopez on FaceTime during the taping. But, to Ellen’s dismay, Lopez corroborated the story.

“I went up to him and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around and he didn’t recognize me,” she said.

“We’ll look at the tape,” Ellen said, refusing to believe Jen’s claim.

For the record, we have looked at the tape (below), and their stories match up.

However, there’s an interesting oversight in both of their recollections—they each say this shoulder tap moment was their initial meeting, despite already having each other’s phone numbers for business purposes, BUT we have proof that they actually met back in 2005, when Jennifer was still married to singer Marc Anthony.
