Hollywood Reacts to Harvey Weinstein Trial Verdict
The disgraced producer was found guilty of two charges: rape and criminal sexual act.
Harvey Weinstein’s long-awaited verdict has been delivered, and the disgraced producer has been found guilty of two of five charges leveraged against him in his New York trial: criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree.
Many public figures, including several Weinstein accusers, have shared their reactions to the verdict, and, naturally, they’re varied. While some were eager to praise the “guilty” charges, others were disappointed by the three counts (two counts of predatory sexual assault and one count of rape in the first degree) of which Weinstein was found not guilty.
As Judd Apatow pointed out, Weinstein faces more to come. He was charged with four counts of sexual assault in Los Angeles in January.
The charges Weinstein has been found guilty of thus far carry probable prison sentences. Rape in the third degree is punishable by up to four years in prison, while criminal sexual assault in the first degree bears a minimum of five years in prison (and up to 25).
