No, we're not talking butterfly clips here—though, would it be too early to make a case for them? The hair gems you used to rock in middle school are making a major comeback, but not at all in the way you think. In lieu of the chunky, glitter-flecked pieces you once twisted (or velcroed) into your crimped strands decades ago, the 2016 update to the trend takes a minimalist approach that borders on downright elegant. As demonstrated by Ashley Tisdale in the shot above, the effect is much more subtle when concentrated over a single area, and paired with loose, cascading waves, becomes totally Instagram-worthy.
