They say absence makes the heart grow fonder and we couldn't help but think Gwen Stefani was proving the adage to be true on Saturday. The "Make Me Like You" singer, who’s currently in Japan, tweeted her support for boyfriend Blake Shelton as he geared up to host the 2016 Kids’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles.

She even managed to find a good proxy to fill her shoes: her middle son with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, 7-year-old Zuma (below, right), who looked downright adorable in a patch-emblazoned denim vest, black jeans, and well-worn cowboy boots (perhaps a nod to Shelton’s country leanings?) before heading inside The Forum to enjoy the show with his cousin Stella (below, left), and a buddy.

It seemed the 46-year-old star was having problems tuning in from abroad, imploring her fans to help her find a way to stream the Nickelodeon awards show.

Trying to stream 😭🤕🤔😫😖😤😱😰@AllThingsKCAs in Japan ????!!! Gx

Where r my Japanese fans? Help me stream @AllThingsKCAs gx

We can’t be sure whether Stefani finally was successful at catching it live; nevertheless, she was full of emoji-filled clapping praise for the 39-year-old singer and Voice judge at the end of the hour-and-a-half-long show.

She even had a good laugh at Shelton's expense when he got his wish of getting slimed.

The couple made their red carpet debut last month at the Oscars.
