We’d say this is one “Sweet Escape.” Gwen Stefani will head to the White House on Tuesday, Oct. 18 to perform for the President, First Lady, and guests during the Italy State Dinner.

First Lady Michelle Obama announced the news on Snapchat on Wednesday, revealing that Stefani will give a musical performance and Mario Batali will serve as the guest chef when the family welcomes Italy’s Prime Minster Matteo Renzi and his wife, Agnese Landini, to the White House. As Stefani’s father is Italian and Batali is an expert on Italian cuisine, these choices make perfect sense.

On Monday, White House press secretary Josh Earnest called Prime Minister Renzi’s visit “an opportunity to recognize the depth and breadth of our relationship with Italy and exchange views on the future of Europe.”

Those of us who weren’t lucky enough to score an invite to the V.I.P. dinner can watch Stefani’s sure-to-be epic performance live at wh.gov/live on Oct. 18.

Here’s to hoping she gets to bring Blake Shelton as a plus one.
