The One Food You Should Eat Daily
Just like an It bag, there seems to be a trendy new superfood every season. So we asked N.Y.C. Integrative doctor Frank Lipman, M.D. what food he believes can make the biggest impact on our health. His pick? Make like Popeye and start chomping leafy greens on the daily. “Calorie for calorie, they deliver more nutrients than just about any other food on the planet,” says Lipman, who recommends helpings of collard greens, kale and spinach to get the most bang for your bite.
Chock full of calcium, fiber, vitamins A, C, K and phytochemicals, "leafy greens give your body the artillery it needs to help fight off potential killers like heart disease and cancer,” says Lipman. While you can consume greens in a salad, or sauté them as a side dish, Lipman suggests getting a heaping helping in a smoothie. Check out his recipe below.
Green Minty Magic Smoothie
- 4 oz chilled mint tea
- 4 oz unsweetened coconut milk
- 1 scoop of protein powder (Lipman suggests Be Well Whey Protein Powder)
- 1 cup kale
- 1 cup spinach
- ¼ avocado
- 10 fresh mint leaves
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 6 ice cubes
Blend till smooth and creamy.
