Gwyneth Paltrow's Second Chic Goop Apparel Edition Incudes a Sartorial Tribute to The Breakfast Club
Goop Label's latest edition is finally here, and it includes two staple wardrobe pieces that are perfect for fall—a menswear-inspired navy overcoat and a sleek LBD.
The Gwyneth Soft Crombie Coat ($1,195; shop.goop.com), features three buttons down the front and four pockets. "This is based on the first men's overcoat I ever owned, which I bought at Canal Jean in, like, 1984," Gwyneth Paltrow said in a statement about the coat from her direct-to-consumer apparel line.
"It was a wool men's tweed coat with a relaxed, dropped shoulder, that I'd wear with the sleeves rolled up," she continued. "That's exactly what I wanted this to be: Something John Bender from The Breakfast Club might have worn. It's a mix of beautiful wool and cashmere, in a gorgeous blue—it's got a lot of pigment in it."
Meanwhile, the Altieri Shawl Collar Dress ($595; shop.goop.com) in the October edition is chic, featuring a plunging neckline, a satin skirt, and satin lapels. It was inspired by Paltrow's constant search for the perfect LBD, and she couldn't help but gush over the frock.
"This dress was the result of me always looking for, and having a hard time finding a little black, work-to-cocktail dress that doesn't go out of style," she said. "It's incredibly flattering on the body, it's got a beautiful little shoulder pad, and it was inspired by a jumpsuit I wore long ago, that we sold exclusively on Goop."
As for the inspiration behind the edition, the Oscar winner said it was all about the transition from fall to winter. "October is one of those tricky transitional months: Impetuous temperatures from day to day, the advent of layers, plus longer nights that are full of promise," she continued. "It adds up to wardrobe essentials that have to work a little harder to meet the challenge—and their flexibility makes them all the more valuable."
