The Good Wife Work Outfit Inspo of the Week: Try One Statement Piece
This season, The Good Wife’s costume designer Dan Lawson is exclusively giving InStyle readers tips for what to wear to work, inspired by the characters’ ensembles on the show.
On the Jan. 4 episode of The Good Wife, which scored over 10 million viewers, Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) wore the same outfit throughout the entire episode. For such an important look, costume designer Dan Lawson told InStyle that he wanted the character "to look strong with clean lines and a sophisticated shape."
To do so, he started with a base of black to create a strong core by dressing her in wide-legged wool Gucci pants and a black tank by Theory. The gray wool collarless jacket with a graphic splatter embellishment on the sleeves and skirt of the jacket was by Emporio Armani. "This definitely gave the look a little something extra."
Your tip: You only need one element of an outfit to really make a statement. “Use a solid color at your core to give the illusion of strength and power," says Lawson. "Then add punch to the look with a jacket in a contrasting color or texture.”
