Find out what costume designer Daniel Lawson had to say about Alicia Florrick's Etro geometric-print jacket.
This season, The Good Wife’s costume designer Dan Lawson is exclusively giving InStyle readers tips for what to wear to work, inspired by the characters’ ensembles on the show.
On last night's episode of The Good Wife, Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) hopes to return to her law firm after withdrawing from the state attorney race due to some dramatic circumstances. She battles with whether it's the right move---all the while maintaining her completely put-together look. Costume designer Dan Lawson helped the character stay steady in her sartorial choices throughout this change in career direction, especially when he dressed her in this Etro wool jacket outlined with geometric shapes.
"This jacket was reminiscent of the brown-and-tan houndstooth patterned jacket Alicia wore in the very first episode of the series when she slapped Peter," Lawson told us after the episode. "I wanted to capture that same geometric feeling, but have it be modern and elegant. Sometimes I think a geometric pattern if proportioned right can be absolutely stunning."
Your takeaway tip: "Let a geometric pattern pull you out from the crowd," Lawson said. "You can achieve the look not just with a print, but also through clever seaming."
