Golden Globes Winner Gina Rodriguez On Fashion: "I Don't Have a Sample-Size Body, and I'm OK With That."
Sunday night was a night of many firsts for Gina Rodriguez! Not only did the Jane the Virgin star make her Golden Globes debut, but she took home her first Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a TV Comedy—and she looked nothing short of perfection while at it.
The 30-year-old Latina beauty stunned on the red carpet in a black strapless Badgley Mischka crepe column with pretty macrame detailing at the skirt, complete with a Judith Leiber clutch and Chopard diamonds (above).
"I was a tomboy growing up, and I don't know if I have style," Rodriguez confesses to InStyle at the BAFTA 2015 Awards Season Tea Party the day before. She had worn a playful asymmetric cut-out dress with a matching multi-colored tweed coat, both by GUiSHEM, styled with nude Stuart Weitzman pumps. "It was super colorful and fun, and I thought it was appropriate for the daytime," she says of her outfit. "And it fit really well."
It turns out, fit is extremely important to Rodriguez. And it's with the help and guidance of her stylist Lauren Rodriguez that she's been able to love and enjoy fashion (despite alleged personal style ambiguity). "[Lauren is] amazing; she knows my body. I definitely don't have a sample-size body, and I'm OK with that because I love my body," she says. "I've been to fittings where I don't fit into 75 percent of the dresses, and I'm like, 'What's wrong with me?' No, there's nothing wrong me—these just don't fit."
"It's about being conscientious of the situation," she adds. "And to have someone who knows my body and brings me options that will only fit me, it builds my confidence." Well, Gina, we can confidently say, you are stunning!
