We're days away from the first major awards show of the year, and we're eagerly tracking (or borderline stalking) the moves of every Golden Globes nominee for any indication of the fashions we might see on the red carpet. As this season's front-runner, you can bet we have our eyes on Carol star Cate Blanchett (she's nominated for Best Actress in a Drama). Hailed for her unparalleled elegance and her ability to slay any red carpet she graces, Blanchett has an impressive high-fashion track record that includes looks from Giorgio Armani, Givenchy, and Chanel—which is why her latest look caught us pleasantly by surprise.

At the Variety and AARP Movies for Grownups Film Screening Series, Blanchett channeled her inner child and unexpectedly showed up to the event in a pair of fitted black overalls. Yes, overalls. She boldly styled them with a long-sleeve orange knit and classic black pumps.

Now, we know that she won't be wearing overalls on the night of the Globes (Sunday, 8 p.m. ET on NBC), but this kind of sartorial unpredictability is one of the reasons we can't wait to see what she'll pull for the red carpet. Never a dull moment with this one. Plus, this look proves that she give anything—even overalls—a super chic spin. For more of Cate, take a look backat all the times she crushed the carpet.
