Glossier's New Products Are Like Nothing the Brand Has Done Before
Glossier is Glossier's best hype man. The brand mysteriously announced that it was launching a sub-brand called Glossier Play on Instagram in late February. Fans freaked out, started following the new brand, accepted that they're going to go broke buying everything, and then started figuring out what in the Glossier pink pouch is Glossier Play?!
Based on the sub-brand's name and Glossier trademark for something called the "Playroom," sex toys was a popular guess. The answer remained unclear, but finally, the brand confirmed that a Glossier lube isn't on the way.
Launching today, the new sub-brand is actually a line of color cosmetics that goes beyond the brand's signature dewy, everyday, no-makeup makeup aesthetic. These new products are meant to be used when you're in the mood to "play" and have fun with your makeup. Get it?
According to a press release from the brand, Glossier Play products are formulated with "colors you’ve never seen before, luxurious textures that move with you, and products that breathe excitement back into your makeup routine."
Like Glossier, Glossier Play's initial launch includes four key products that come in 28 shades in total, plus two tools. Colorslide, a long-wear gel eyeliner; Vinylic Lip, a high-shine lip pen; Niteshine, a liquid highlighter; and Glitter Gelée, a glitter gel can all be purchased individually or mixed and matched in a set called a "Playground." As for the tools, Blade is a pencil sharpener that comes with its own cleaning stick to get rid of color residue, and The Detailer is made specifically to use with the Glitter Gelée for a dotted application.
What also sets the sister brand apart from the original is that all of Glossier Play's products come in a lamé pouch instead of a Glossier pink one.

Colorslide Technogel Eye Pencil
For anyone who loves how effortlessly a gel eyeliner glides on but hates that it smears just as easily, this is the pencil for you. The Colorslide liner comes in 14 matte and metallics shades that don't smudge, crease, or tug for up to 12 hours (8 hours for mattes). There's a pretty even mix between bright and subtle shades that range from deep turquoise to metallic pink, and of course, classic black.
Niteshine Highlighter Concentrate
If there's any highlighter that could out-dew Glossier's Haloscope, it's one that they made. Glossier Play's liquid highlighter is formulated with a refined pearl powder so that you can layer it to build your desired level of glow. It comes with a doe-foot applicator so that you can dab the right amount of product exactly where you want it on your face, and then blend it out with your fingertips. Niteshine comes in four shades including bronze, rose gold, champagne, and copper.
Whether you like it or not, lip gloss is having a moment. Glossier Play's is pigmented and shiny without being sticky. The six available shades include taupe, and bolder options like orange and candy pink. Vinylic Lip comes in a click pen with a plush cushion applicator that lets you customize your look: bold and pigmented or sheered out to a stain.
Glitter is one of the funnest makeup products to experiment with, but it can be tough to apply and straight up full-time job to take off. Glossier Play's sparkly gels make it easy to add shine to your look without the impending glitter hangover. The four colorways can be dabbed on alone or overtop eye makeup or lipstick. And thanks to the transcalent gel base, they won't slip or wear off.
