Prom is a night teens get to make their dreams come true, from the perfect over-the-top promposal to figuring out your ideal red carpet hair and makeup look, to of course, tracking down your dream dress. But one teen has every prom attendee across America beat on that last front, attending her high school dance wearing the actual Badgley Mishka dress Gina Rodriguez wore to the 2015 Golden Globes.
As we reported back in January, a high schooler named Jessica Casanova tweeted at the Jane the Virgin actress complimenting her Zac Posen Golden Globes dress and saying she would love to wear it to her own prom. Rodriguez promptly replied, saying that while the Posen gown didn’t belong to her, she did still own the black strapless dress she wore to last year’s ceremony in which she won the award for Best Actress and would be happy to donate it to the teen for her big night.
And Rodriguez took her fairy godmother duties seriously, because she made Casanova’s dreams come true, making good on her promise of prom night perfection. And better yet, the teen even got a special video message from the actress who, according to ET, told her, “Just know I love you. I’m so proud of you. I’m so excited for you. You look beautiful and everybody will remember it—especially you!”
And even though Casanova will have to return the dress at the end of the night, it will be moving on to yet another girl who needs it, like The Sisterhood of the Traveling Couture Gown. Jessica told ET, “I hope whoever gets it next, it goes in the right hands, because it’s something close to her heart and it means a lot to her. I just hope it gets taken care of really well like the way I am.”
