Gigi Hadid will take the stage to host the 2016 American Music Awards on Sunday with Jay Pharoah, but she’s finding it hard to be totally impartial. In fact, the model cast her vote for the winners, and there’s one contender she’s rooting for above the rest: her boyfriend, Zayn Malik.

“I don’t know if as a host I’m allowed to say who I’m voting for … but [I] voted for him,” Hadid told People. “I think that he really deserves recognition for the music that he made this year.”

After splitting from One Direction, Malik released his first solo album, Mind of Mine, in March. The former boybander is now nominated in the “New Artist of the Year” category alongside Alessia Cara, The Chainsmokers, DNCE, and Shawn Mendes.

“It’s been amazing to kind of see him learn about himself and the music that makes him really happy to sing,” Hadid said. “I would just be very excited for him if he were to win.”

As for the show, there’s one performer that she’s looking forward to watching. “I love Gaga and I think that she always brings something with so much heart,” Hadid said. “I’m very excited to see what she has for us.”

The model’s appearance on stage will be a show of its own, as she promises to appear in multiple outfits throughout the course of the night. “I try not to kind of have a theme or one specific look that I’m going for just because I want it to be really eclectic and fun, kind of surprise people and be colorful and have cool textures,” she told People. “That’s what a fun part about being a host is.”

Watch Hadid light up the stage when she hosts the AMAs on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
