The 21-year-old model is gearing up to co-host the 2016 American Music Awards with SNL alum Jay Pharoah, but don’t think her experience is helping ease the pressure. So is she feeling nervous? “Yes, super nervous, but I think that I like when I’m nervous because it just makes me just obviously pay more attention and be like snappier about things,” she told InStyle. “I try to have a really good rehearsal and put a lot of energy and focus into that because that then makes it easier for me to just have fun. Obviously there’s a lot of crazy changes, and those are really good to keep you busy backstage, because then you don’t feel as nervous, or focus on the wrong things.” Jitters aside, Hadid is ready to take on the night. “I’m so excited,” she told us. “It’s so cool to be able to grow up as a fan of a show and in a million years I never would have thought ... I didn’t even know that it was a possibility that I could be a host of the show.” “It’s, like, amazing,” she continued. “Three years ago was the first time I walked the [AMAs] carpet, where it was debatable if anyone was going to know my name or take a picture of me, to last year when I presented for the first time and then this summer kind of worked on my hosting skills and then now we’re here. It’s been such an amazing process, and I’m feeling really comfortable and excited about it.” As for the amount of looks she plans to wear to the AMAs, Hadid said a lot of her potential ensembles are “still sketches and ideas” and she’s not sure how many she’ll wear just yet. One thing is for sure though—she wants to make a statement when she hops on stage. “I think that it’s really important to kind of go in and see the pieces that really make you excited and that you think will kind of spark something in people,” Hadid told us. “I want people to either love or hate it. I don’t want anyone to feel neutral about what I’m wearing. I want people to kind of get whatever feeling that piece gave me when I saw it for the first time. That’s really exciting for me, and I’m just going to go with the amount of looks that I’m most excited about.” As for how she would describe her AMAs hosting style, Hadid said it will be “very AMAs.” She added, “You can play with so many textures and styles and kind of vibes and inspiration with music shows especially, because music artists have so much fun with how they celebrate [their personal styles].” Gigi Hadid Just Introduced Us to the Pajama Jumpsuit and We're Hooked “I think that’s why I have so much fun at awards shows, because I get to celebrate my friends and the people that are winning, but then also get to celebrate their fashion and kind of bring my world into theirs a little bit.” She’s also just hoping for “a really positive experience.” She continued, “I know that I’ll come out of it with a full heart, just because I love any night that celebrates people, and I’m going to be excited for everyone that wins. So, I think that regardless, even if I mess up a little bit, as long as everyone is excited ... I’ll be happy.” RELATED: How to Get Arms Like Gigi Hadid The American Music Awards will air live on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
