No more smelly Mellie! On last night's Scandal, the First Lady (Bellamy Young) finally cleaned up and got rid of her sweats, replacing them with a slew of chic, fitted dresses. Costume designer, Lyn Paolo, made sure that Mellie's look really stood out in this episode, choosing a houndstooth-printed Michael Kors sheath for her post-mourning debut.

In fact, Paolo used a lot of geometric prints in Episode Six, even for Kerry Washington's Olivia Pope. "It's a thematic thing," she told InStyle. "There is lots of houndstooth throughout the show. For Olivia, her life is so conflicted at the moment so we needed the pattern to show it."

Pope also wears a black and white trench from her very own Scandal Collection for The Limited! "Kerry and I designed that one," Paolo said. "Because you don't know who she's going to go see as she's walking down the hallway surrounded by guards, we wanted something really striking and strong looking."

Tune in to ABC every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET to catch the newest episode!
