GE's Moon Boot-Inspired Sneakers Will Leave You Starry-Eyed
Fancy a trip to the moon? While your lunar voyage may still be a few years away, you can at least look as if you're headed there soon with these kicks from GE (yep, General Electric). To celebrate the 45th anniversary of the first manned moon landing, GE has teamed up with online retailer JackThreads and designer Android Homme to create out-of-this-world moon boot sneakers, based on the original designs of the footgear that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin wore on the moon.
The metallic silver hightops (above) feature carbon fiber weaves on the sides, buckles, and silver laces. While a pair of sneakers from a company that's known for manufacturing microwaves and refrigerators may seem out of left field, GE actually contributed the materials for the original moon boots, which were designed to withstand up to 250-degree temperatures.
The limited edition unisex sneakers will be available exclusively on jackthreads.com on July 20 for $197.
