George Clooney Will Charm Your Socks Off While Speaking Italian
When George and Amal Clooney met Pope Francis earlier this week, all eyes were on Amal in her stunning Atelier Versace lace dress and matching hat. While the human rights lawyer and street style star was stealing the show, George was charming a room full of reporters with his “horrible” Italian.
The Money Monster star addressed reporters with an afternoon-appropriate greeting, “Buona sera,” after checking his watch, and proceeded to apologize for his “horrible” Italian—in Italian, no less. “Scusi, non parlo italiano molto bene. Mi dispiace,” he said (That’s “Excuse me, I don’t speak Italian very well. I’m sorry,” in English).
Clearly, the actor, who has a summer home in Lake Como, speaks enough of the language to get around. Between his on-point accent and very Italian hand gestures, Clooney sounds like a pro, despite his modesty.
The 55-year-old was in Rome to meet with Pope Francis at the Vatican, where the Pontiff awarded him a medal for his charity work. The actor works with the educational organization Scholas Occurrentes, which Pope Francis founded.
