This year the Dillon Panthers aren't going to the state championship, they're headed to the stage.

A musical interpretation of the beloved NBC drama, Friday Night Lights, is in the works and it's going to be epic. The project, which is being called The Unauthorized Friday Night Lights Musical, is the brainchild of producers Jordan Ross and Lindsey Rosin—the pair that brought musical reboots of Cruel Intentions and The O.C. to the stage earlier this year.

While many of the details remain unknown, what we do know is that the show will open in 2016 in Los Angeles, and that the role of Coach Eric Taylor made famous by Kyle Chandler will be played by a familiar face, Scott Porter. Porter starred as paraplegic football player Jason Street in the original series.

Porter celebrated the news with a dubsmash video:

We have high hopes that the producers (with the help of Porter) will be able to convince more original cast members to join the project... ahem, Taylor Kitsch.
