Nothing says awards night like a glamorous, classic red lip. Michelle Dockery who stars as the formidable Lady Mary in Downton Abbey—nominated for best dramatic series tonight—just touched down on the red carpet. Her makeup artist, Jordan Long told us, “Since her gown was so gorgeous and soft, we wanted to go with a brighter lip and smokey eyes.” Long credits Old Hollywood glamour icons like Liz Taylor and Grace Kelly with inspiration for the look. "Michelle looks really feminine and beautiful in her Oscar de la Renta dress," she told us. To create the dramatic statement lip, Long prepped her pucker first by applying a bit of concealer lightly all over and then dusted a tiny bit of powder. "This neutralized everything for a nice base." Next she applied lip liner over the entire lip and then went back over with Votre Vu French Kiss in Chloe ($16 at votrevu.com). Long has a tip for applying a bright lip color: "I always recommend using a lip brush because you need the color to be exact. With a neutral color, you can just apply straight from the tube since the color contrast with the skin isn’t as great."
