Expert's Top 10: Tracey Cunningham's Favorite Products for Color-Treated Hair

Seattle native, Tracey Cunningham is responsible for some of the most sought after hair color in Hollywood. From bombshell blonds like Gwyneth Paltrow and Charlize Theron to the richest brunettes (Emily Blunt, Drew Barrymore and Jessica Biel, to name a few), Cunningham is the go-to colorist for many A-Listers. She's known for her natural but sexy hues and says the only universal rule with hair is , simply stated, less is more. "You can always add more, it's hard to back out of things once they're done or in the process," she tells InStyle.com "That's always been my motto. People focus sometime more on speed, or "instant results" than taking your time to build and get it right."

But she says it's important to always look put together and make an effort with your appearance. "Even a little bit goes a long way," she says. "A few years ago, I would just go into work everyday looking tired, and not my best. My client pulled me aside, and said it wouldn't be a bad idea for me to blow-dry my hair once a week, and put on a little makeup. After that, I always made an effort in someway with my makeup and hair, people treat you differently - Especially if you're trying to be taken seriously in a professional world."

Cunningham seems genuinely grateful for all of her success, " I'm such a huge fan of movies, television, music. It's such an honor to work with the people that I do, I feel so blessed to be apart of it in some way! As in love as I am with the people in front of the cameras, I'm also a fan of the writers and producers that I get to work with as well. They have such great taste and are true geniuses."

What's the next big thing in hair. "Healthy hair. More natural, coloring, styling of the hair, hair cuts," she says. "If you're not starting with a healthy base, you can't move forward with any up and coming trends. I think it's gearing us up for the next 'next' thing, which tends to be the complete opposite, so watch out." Will do!
