Exclusive! Sofia Vergara: "I've Never Been Into the Natural Look"

The product already has a fan in Sofia Vergara, who spoke to InStyle.com exclusively about why she loves it, her secret to feeling sexy, and what she has in common with her Modern Family character Gloria.

Tell us about CoverGirl's new Bombshell Volume mascara. What do you like about it?Oh, I’m obsessed! It has both volume and intensity – my lashes look so big and dark.

Our readers think you are the ultimate bombshell—what are some makeup looks and outfits that make you feel sexy?I always love an intense, dark eye. And lashes—the bigger the better. For outfits, I feel most sexy in a figure-hugging dress—especially with a mermaid bottom silhouette. Also, I love a bold hue. And not too many embellishments so the design speaks for itself. And to feel sexy, of course a high-heel shoe!

How do you channel your inner bombshell?To me, a bombshell is a woman who feels really sexy, like a dress and a pair of heels. But I can also feel sexy when I am being silly and making people laugh. Sexy is really a state of mind. It’s like if you believe you’re sexy, you are. My advice to women would be 'sexy fits all.' You know you’ve got it, so flaunt it!

What is your favorite eye makeup look to create on yourself?My favorite look is definitely the cat eye. CoverGirl has this new Intensity Liner ($8.99 at ulta.com) that is part of the new Bombshell collection. It has a felt tip so it is really easy to put on. The cat eye look makes the eyes look big and bright.

Are there any beauty tricks you picked up from makeup artists on set?It seems so simple, but the trick to flawless makeup is to always start with a good base, like a serum or moisturizer. Which holiday beauty trends are you excited to try?For the holidays, I always love a little extra sparkle and shine. Not only are the Bombshell shine shadows great for a sexy, intense bombshell eye, but they have these reflective pigments so your eyes just dazzle when the light hits your face. And they really last—my makeup needs to keep up with me.

You’ve been both blonde and brunette. How did you alter your makeup routine to flatter each hue?Usually when my hair is darker, the slightly warmer colors look better on me—bronzes, corals, browns, especially around the eyes—to match the intensity of my hair color against my skin. When I go blonde, I tend to be softer with my makeup choices, more pinks and lighter tones for my lips and cheeks.

How is your personal style similar to Gloria’s on Modern Family? How is it different? Has her style influenced your own wardrobe?Gloria and I have a very similar style. Obviously, she doesn’t wear the red carpet looks that I sometimes do, but she likes to look good—sexy, even—while being such a busy woman. She likes to look glamorous and wear lipstick, even to drop the kids off at school. On normal days, when I’m not shooting, I am happy to wear nice, fitted jeans, a comfortable t-shirt and Moto jacket—still sexy but easy and casual enough to run around town and do errands. I’ve never been into the natural look—I wear makeup always. Gloria is the same way, and I love it!
