Erica Bell, 28, and Katie Finnegan, 30, worked about as closely as you can get at J.Crew (Katie was a merchant for men’s bottoms, Erica for men’s tops) but when they left the fashion retail world, so too, went their insider access. Driven by their love of a Friends and Family discount, the friends teamed up to launch Hukkster in May 2012, an app that tracks the pieces you love and lets you know when they go on sale.

Where did the name Hukkster come from?Erica: A huckster is an old term for a peddler, someone who would go door-to-door making deals. We revamped the spelling and now we’re your modern day Hukkster, bringing the deals straight to your inbox.

Who is your style muse?Katie: Jenna Lyons. She has this effortless, always-applicable look that I love. She can go from the red carpet to the office, and that’s great for me because I don’t like to change or do a lot of maintenance.Erica: Leandra Medine of The Man Repeller. I’m not super-trendy but she’s a great source for inspiration. She always has her pulse on what’s new and it’s kind of critical that we have a pulse on that as well.

What item are you planning on splurging on this season?Erica: I saw a Helmut Lang blazer on Shopbop that I’m obsessing over. It’s such a beautiful cut.Katie: A Vince Paper leather scuba jacket. It’s in the four-figure price range so it’s definitely something I Hukked. It’s such soft leather and looks so comfortable and deconstructed.

What are your workday and weekend uniforms?Erica: We have a really casual office. Chambray is a great way to maintain that casual air and comfort, but you can dress it up with a great necklace and beautiful heels. On the weekend it’s rare to catch me out of J Brand skinny jeans and a black t-shirt, or Lululemon because it’s one of the only times I can hit the gym.Katie: I love maxi dresses. They’re such an easy comfortable outfit for long days when we’re going from a breakfast meeting to dinner. And you can always throw a blazer over it. Weekends don’t change much. Maybe my hair is in a bun.

You feel most creative when you’re wearing…Erica: I’m a shoe nut so I definitely like to have fun with my heels. I have this insane neon pink pump from J.Crew. I also love a great bootie. I will probably wear my Rag & Bone booties every day this fall.Katie: It’s all about a pop of color. I’m probably the brightest person in the office most days. I have the Gap skimmer jeans in every highlighter color. They’re so comfortable and so cheap! I didn’t feel guilty buying four pairs.
