For those Downton Abbey fans who still haven't gotten over Dan Stevens's sad departure from the show, there's good news. He has been cast to play the Beast opposite Emma Watson’s Belle in Disney's new live-action musical version of Beauty and the Beast!

This will be Stevens's biggest gig since leaving Downton. He followed up his exit with supporting roles in films including Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb and A Walk Among the Tombstones. Stevens marked the news with a tweet:

Also joining the movie is Welsh actor Luke Evans, star of The Hobbit series and Fast & Furious: Supercharged, who has signed on to portray the villain Gaston in the film. The actors' co-star Watson is clearly quite excited about the casting news as she took to Twitter to express her sentiments:

The movie trails other live-action remakes of classic Disney animated features including Maleficent and the soon-to-be-released Cinderella starring Cate Blanchett and Lily James. While the new film does have a particularly high bar to reach since the original 1991 animated Beauty and the Beast grossed more than $375 million worldwide, inspired a long-running Broadway musical, and received a best picture Oscar nomination, we'd bet that Watson, Stevens, and Evans are up for the challenge!
