Emily VanCamp: "I Love a Look That's a Mix of Soft and Edgy"

While most red carpet looks appear intimidating, Emily VanCamp's glowing skin and perfect blowout at the Captain America: The Winter Soldier premiere can easily be channeled in everyday life. Just in time for some weekend primping, VanCamp’s glam squad shares how you can score the same look, along with a behind-the-scenes photo of the star prepping for the big night.

After settling on a soft, smoky eye and nude lip, makeup artist Rosie Johnston complemented the star’s flawless complexion with a dewy flush of color. Using a foundation brush, Johnston applied Votre Vu’s multi-tasking Vu-On Rouge in Bouquet Rose ($30; votrevu.com) along the apples of her cheeks, blending upward for a smooth, flirty finish.

As for those glossy tresses, the Revenge star came up with that idea all on her own. “I love a look that’s a mix of soft and edgy, that’s why I wanted smooth, soft hair to complement my metallic dress for tonight’s red carpet,” she tells InStyle.com exclusively. “It’s so touchably soft!”

1. After using a wide tooth comb on wet hair, flip your head over and apply an egg-sized amount of the Herbal Essences Naked Volumizing Souffle ($7; drugstore.com) into roots, working through hair. Then, flip your head back over and add a bit more to the hairline for additional volume and lift.2. Section hair from ear to ear around the back of your head and pin the top section up. Starting from the back, blow dry hair straight using a large round brush to give it more body and movement. Continue to work through each section, blow drying with the round brush.
