Emily Blunt stunned last week at the premiere of Edge of Tomorrow in a fiery Prada gown. But what truly caught our eye was how she fearlessly finished off the look with an equally bold lip color. Though fusing red and hot pink is traditionally deemed as a fashion and makeup no-no, Blunt’s unlikely pairing made for one surprisingly chic look.

That convinced us to take the beauty risk ourselves, and we got the inside scoop on how to pull it off right from the star’s makeup artist, Jenn Streicher. “I'm not always into matchy-matchy lip colors, especially with a red dress,” she tells us about her decision to clash shades. Inspired by Blunt’s sleek bun and peaked neckline, she swiped on NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Villa Lante ($25; to deliver the daring contrast. “I just thought a bright pink lip would really pop without stealing the show,” she says. When working with a satin texture, Streicher recommends blotting and then reapplying to get a full dense coverage—no lip liner needed.
