The new year is bringing new music for Ed Sheeran. After taking a year off from the scene, he headed to Twitter to reveal his plans for 2017. The "Thinking Out Loud" singer shared that he will be dropping new music this Friday in a short but special video for his followers. Sheeran captioned the video, "Hello 2017..." and appeared on screen in a laid back sweater and a pair of black glasses while holding a hand-written sign that said, "New music coming Friday!!"

Sheeran's last album, X, was released in 2014 and earned him the Grammy Award for Song of the Year for his hit, "Thinking Out Loud," in 2016. For more than 12 months, his fans have not heard from the indie singer, except for his brief return to the spotlight to support Kate Middleton's charity event this past December. The event was his only major performance of the year.

Although we aren't sure if Sheeran is planning to drop just one song or an entire studio album, this news has 2017 looking bright not only for Sheeran but for all of his fans who spent 2016 anticipating his return.
