Before Julia Roberts could set off to film Eat, Pray, Love, costume designer Michael Dennison had to take a journey of his own. "Fran Vega-Buck (Julia's personal costumer since 1993's The Pelican Brief) and I traveled to each of the locations—New York, Rome, India and Bali—to buy clothes and accessories before filming started," Dennison told us. "And we did it in one week!" After the whirlwind trip, Dennison pulled together more than 100 costumes for the around-the-world shoot. "Each part of the story is associated with a season, but the calendar is backwards," he explained. "We meet Julia's character when she's in an emotional winter, then she begins a journey that takes her through fall, summer and finally to spring, the season of rebirth and renewal. What she wears helps us to see how she's changing and growing."
