Dumbledore lives! While Harry Potter fans mourned his death at (spoiler alert!) the hands of Professor Snape in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the Hogwarts headmaster is getting new life in J.K. Rowling’s upcoming film franchise.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them director David Yates has confirmed that a younger version of the beloved headmaster will appear in the film's sequel and casting is underway to fill the role.

“In the second movie, Dumbledore comes back. He’s got a couple of good scenes with Newt,” Yates told fan site The Leaky Cauldron. “We just have to find out who would play him? Any thoughts?”

Eddie Redmayne is confirmed to return as Newt Scamander in the second installment and another actor is set to have a large role: Johnny Depp. He will play Gellert Grindelwald, Albus Dumbledore’s friend and possible love interest turned dark wizard and mortal enemy, in the second film Yates confirmed.

“As we approached Grindelwald, we thought, ‘Who’s going to take this in an interesting direction?’” Yates said. “Johnny Depp is a real artist. He’s created several characters who have really resonated in our popular culture. He’s a really brilliant, brilliant actor. We were excited about seeing what he would do with this guy, the character.”

We can’t wait to see what this wizarding world dreams up.
