Jessica Alba may have been the first celebrity to wear one of the jewels designed by Derek Lam and Jamie Wolf in honor of the New York City Ballet’s 50th Anniversary, but she definitely won’t be the last. The breathtaking Black and White Collection is as edgy and elegant as the Oscar winning ballet thriller Black Swan.

The minimalist fashion designer and romantic jewelry designer, who happen to be good friends, came up with the concept one evening after attending an inspirational performance at Lincoln Center. “Every jewel reflects a specific movement, a costume or a set in one of legendary choreographer George Balanchine’s New York City Ballet productions,” explains Wolf who was a ballerina in the company for 10 years before she turned her considerable talents to jewelry design in 2006. “The black and white color scheme was our way of echoing how Balanchine modernized ballet by emphasizing the line of movement.”
