The Countess Cuts Loose: Elizabeth McGovern Belts Out Tunes in Her Spare Time
Taking a break from her day job portraying Downton Abbey's Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham, Elizabeth McGovern assumed another alter ego as lead singer of blues-folk band Sadie and the Hotheads, playing a London club on Sunday night as the climax of a 27-city United Kingdom tour before resuming filming the series just a day later. The passion project began in 2007, after McGovern started taking guitar lessons and writing her own songs. The band has just released its third album, Still Waiting, which was partially crowd-funded, with a donation of $360 worth a perk like a personalized "Happy Birthday" message from the group. Although the Countess would never dream of asking the public for money, she and Sadie have something in common: as McGovern’s performance costume of sequined top and beaded shorts suggested, both are partial to a bit of vintage-inspired bling.
