After hearing a statistic in a tax law class—$13 billion in clothing, shoes and accessories is donated each year in the U.S—friends and Harvard Law alums Christine Rizk, 29, and Anna Palmer, 28, thought about the value of their own closets, and wondered how easy it would be to get others to donate clothing rather than cash for charity. That’s how the idea for Fashion Project was born, and the site launched in November 2012.

How is Fashion Project standing out in a crowded marketplace?Christine: Our mission is to use fashion as a force for good. Every time you buy a pair of Jimmy Choos on Fashion Project, you’re giving money to an organization that will go out and do something great in the world. And that really sets us apart. Today we have over 60 charity partners and 60 percent of the sale of an item on Fashion Project goes to charity.

Who is your style muse?Anna: I love Ashley Olsen's style. It's both laid-back and glamorous depending on the day.Christine: Kate Moss and Garance Dore. Kate Moss because she has such an effortless look and manages to look chic in whatever she wears. Garance Dore because I love her blog. She's so thoughtful about her style and I can get a sense of why she wears what she does.

What item of clothing are you planning on splurging on this season?Christine: A perfectly fitted Helmut Lang cropped blazer.Anna: Christian Louboutin Sakouette Face polka-dot fabric loafers. My guilty pleasure is shoes with a "wow" factor.

What are your workday and weekend uniforms?Anna: If I’m traveling for meetings, I start with my go-to vintage Louis Vuitton tote, then either a casual dress that doesn't wrinkle, such as this red lace dress I have from Nanette Lepore, or an easy-to-wear combination like black Rag & Bone jeans with a white Elizabeth and James tuxedo blazer. For everyday in the office, I usually keep it casual with Hudson jeans, a white tee, Barney's or Jimmy Choo loafers, and gold accessories. For weekends, I usually spend it on the beach and so I just swap jeans and loafers for shorts and sandals.Christine: If I'm going to be in the office I'll wear J Brand or Rag & Bone jeans with a James Perse t-shirt, a blazer and a printed scarf. On weekends, Parker makes great fitted dresses that I'll wear with Rag & Bone ankle boots or Sam Edelman gladiator sandals.

You feel most creative when you're wearing…Christine: I normally wear dainty classic jewelry, but lately I've felt more creative when I change it up and wear a chunky piece that expands my style.Anna: I’m a big shoe person—if I'm splurging on something, it's usually heels or flats. But whenever I have to do something extremely creative, I'm most creative when I take them off.
