Fashion month is in full swing, and to celebrate, LIFE has opened up its vaults to reveal photos from Christian Dior’s iconic “New Look” collection, originally shown in Paris in 1948. Long before runway shows attracted paparazzi and celeb-filled front rows, Dior’s pivotal 1948 lineup changed the course of fashion—ushering in a new decade of ultra-feminine fitted jackets, nipped-in waists, prominent shoulders and full, calf-length skirts.
