Method Acting Made Charlie Hunnam a Terrible Boyfriend—Here's How He Apologized
Charlie Hunnam might be the man of our dreams, but in a recent interview, the studly Brit admits that he hasn't always been the ideal boyfriend.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor explains that while he was filming The Lost City of Z, a long-distance shoot took him away from longtime love Morgana McNelis for five months and delving too far into his method acting got him into trouble.
While he was away in Colombia, the actor and his girlfriend of 11 years decided to keep up the romance by writing letters to each other every day—except it didn't really work out.
"We went to Colombia, and the mail system doesn't really work very well. It's completely unreliable," the Sons of Anarchy star told the magazine. "I received a letter from her, and I realized that from the tone of it and things she was saying that she hadn't received the two letters that I sent before."
And because the mail system was full of kinks, the actor admits that he took the opportunity to further channel his character in the movie—real-life explorer Percy Fawcett who went missing in the Brazilian jungle in 1925—and completely stopped writing.

So how did the Hollywood stud make it up to his girlfriend when they reunited? With apologies upon apologies—and by gifting the jewelry designer a one-of-a-kind make-up present.
"I had the benefit of shooting in Colombia, where they have rather lovely and somewhat cheap emeralds," the 36-year-old told EW. "My girlfriend is a jewelry designer, so I was able to come back with an appropriately sized gift. It didn't remedy all of the trouble I was in, but it got me halfway there."
Though we're not sure that gemstones completely make up for a five-month silent treatment, it sounds as though Hunnam has seen the errors of his ways (and knows the way to a girl's heart!).
