Spanx Confidential: 9 Stars Reveal What They Wore Beneath Their SAG Awards Gowns
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, Spanx, and anything that’ll helps stars achieve that extra nip or tuck, can always be found on the red carpet. And while we didn’t see any wardrobe malfunctions at the 2016 SAG Awards on Saturday, our favorite actresses turned to their glam team for thongs, tights, and high-waisted briefs that let their best assets shine. From youthful beauties like Sarah Hyland who likes to “always wear shapewear” to comedic heroines that simply have one message for the undergarments (“hell no,” says Gaby Hoffmann), we grilled Hollywood's leading ladies with one hard-hitting question: "Are you wearing Spanx?" See what 9 of our favorites had to say.

“Is there room for Spanx? How do you do Spanx when you're backless? No. I haven't been wearing Spanx lately. I have historically—it just depends on where we are on the scale. It's really nice. I've never been like a big girl to go backless. I'm embracing the imperfections of my back...[it's] a big deal for me to go backless. We pick ourselves apart. I certainly do. But I feel great. I feel really comfortable. This is super comfy and life is better without Spanx. It really is.”
Mary Elizabeth Winstead
"I'm wearing Spanx, yes. Spanking it up. I'm wearing the really thin ones where you almost can't feel them, and I love those. And I kind of graduated to those from the thick, like binding Spanx. And the thin ones just kind of give you a little bit of something between you and the fabric because sometimes, it gets a little see-through. And you just want to feel like things are protected under there.”
"I always wear shapewear. Always. It makes you feel safe. It’s a safety net that women should always wear. And I commend the women who don’t, because they have more balls than I do."
"Nothing! I’m free today, that’s the other reason. I’m free, see?" she told us, and then turned around to showcase the sheer back of her dress. "Nurit Hen has me feeling fabulous."
Spanx were not a part of Young's camera-ready getup: “That can't ever happen. I can't leave the house in Spanx. I can't work in Spanx. No. That's a very bad thing. It tells my brain that I am bad.” Instead, she opted for "beautiful Cosabella undies."
For her red carpet appearance, Glenn rocked "nude underwear, like the invisible Victoria's Secret stuff." Spanx, however, were not to be found. "Am I fan? I haven't worn them too much, honestly. But I think I am, Even though I haven't worn them, because I like the extra security, the extra comfort. I'm really more the function over fashion usually. So long as I can meet the two somewhere, it's like the perfect outfit.”
"I'm wearing a nude slip from probably a very cheap shop down the road, and no bra. And some underwear. No Spanx. I am a Spanx girl, but I feel like it's too hot to wear Spanx tonight. I'm letting it breathe. That was so gross.”
"Spanx. Are you kidding? I’ve been talking about Spanx all day. What’s great about these Spanx is that there’s a hole where there needs to be a hole, so I don’t need to take them off. So let’s get really honest here and detailed. So I can pee all night, which is a huge part of it."
"No underwear," she told us of what's beneath her dress. As for Spanx? "Hell no. Hell. No. I mean, I never tried them. Maybe they feel good, I don't know. I don't even like wearing underwear. I'm not going to wear f----ng Spanx. And I don't know, a bra, which I had to start wearing bras once I had a baby. But that's it.”
