Cara Santana's Beauty Secret: How to Fly Without Completely Drying Your Face Out

Face it, if you’re flying in the winter, your skin is going to suffer. You’re hit with triple dry-out scenarios: the outside air, the airport, and the plane cabin itself, which is the worst for your skin. But, if you fly enough, you figure out some tricks, which is exactly what Salem star Cara Santana has done. The actress takes her beauty regime seriously, and she has to—she’s also founder of The Glam App, an on-demand beauty service available in 22 cities across America (download it in the iTunes store). Beauty is literally her business.

So, when we caught up with her in Park City, Utah at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, where her app company set up a pop-up glam bar inside the Barclay Lounge on Main Street, we had to know how her beauty secrets to maintaining moisturized, un-cracked skin—travel schedule notwithstanding. Turns out, this is what she swears by:

It’s called First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Repair Hydra-Firm Sleeping Cream ($38, sephora.com). “I’m sleeping in it here because the air is so dry!” she told us.

But it’s always in her purse for plane rides, too. “I put it on every time before I fly,” she said. “It’s super hydrating, so when you lather it on, it looks like your face is wet or you’re sweating, but by the end of the flight, it’s totally absorbed into your skin. When you land, it looks like you just had a facial. I’ve been doing it for five years.” Well, now we’re ready to start.
