Candace Owens Isn't Welcome on Jameela Jamil's Podcast

It came after she made transphobic comments on Twitter.

Conservative commentator was set to appear on an upcoming episode of Jamila Jamil's podcast, but after a heated debate on Twitter, the two won't be taking to the mics to discuss anything further. In an exchange that included screencaps and what should have been a heartwarming story about new parents, Owens says she was citing biology and being called a bully. Jamil responded not only by revoking Owens's invitation, but by insisting that she was insulting a trans couple and using her platform to spread messages of hate.

It all started when Owens re-tweeted a Daily Mirror news article with the headline: "Transgender man gives birth to non-binary partner's baby with female sperm donor." She offered up her own caption, completely disregarding the individuals' gender identities and, in the words of Jamil, bullying them: "Woman gives birth to partner's baby with male sperm donor. There. I fixed it for you."

"OR... Nice to see a young couple in love, have a happy little baby," Jamil responded. "Their gender is none of my business, worrying about it and mocking them is a pointless waste of time, (it's just bullying) and they are hurting nobody. I wish them well. There I fixed it for you."

Owens didn't end things there. She continued, writing, "LOL 'only women can get pregnant and only men can impregnate them' is now considered a form of bullying. @jameelajamil — keep us posted when 2+2=4 becomes a form of bullying as well."

The following day, Owens shared a screencap of a message she received from Jamil, which included the unceremonious un-invitation.

"Gina, Sorry. We have a trans people working with us. I can't have candace on the podcast anymore. You are both free to say whatever you like about this publicly. I'm sure you will have an entertaining spin. But nothing is worth my friends and coworkers feeling unsafe," she wrote.

Jamil responded to a comment on Thursday after Owens's tweets were interpreted as something along the lines of "my biology degree is a degree in bigotry." Jamil explained that what Owens was doing wasn't just bullying, it was "inciting mocking and hatred." She added that she's open to having opposing views on her podcast, but that she wasn't going to make an exception for Owens's behavior.

"She used her 2 million strong platform to belittle an innocent young trans couple having a baby. Inciting mocking and hatred. So she can't come on my podcast. I'm down to talk to those with opposing views, but willful bullies are not welcome on my platform. Not sorry," she wrote. "Your obsession with other people's genders, is a sign you are unhappy in your own life, and need a target to point your fear and rage at. So you pick on innocent people just getting on with their lives. Just mind your f--king business and clean up your own mess. #TransLivesMatter."
