Prince Harry's Step-Mom Was Worried About the Pre-Royal Wedding Drama, Too
Millions watched in awe, perhaps even stifling a tear or two, as Meghan Markle walked down the aisle to meet her real-life prince on Saturday. But for the royal family, the atmosphere was a tad more heated.
Camilla Parker Bowles, Duchess of Cornwall, opened up about the celebration with reporters on Wednesday, and as a testament to her British-ness, described the day as “lovely.” “Just everything went right,” Prince Harry’s stepmother gushed. “We all wondered whatever would happen next and then everything went right.”
The Duchess’s mention of wondering “whatever would happen next” is likely in reference to Markle’s family on her father’s side, who were in rare form leading up to the May 19 ceremony. The bride’s father, Thomas Markle Sr., was expected to walk the Duchess of Sussex down the aisle but ceded due to health issues (and more than likely, an embarrassing staged photo scandal).
Not to be downplayed, Markle’s half-sister Samantha Grant claims to be the mastermind behind the aforementioned photo scandal, and plans to write a tell-all titled The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister.
Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., played no small role in pre-wedding drama either—he wrote a letter to Prince Harry in late April, in which he begged the royal to rethink his engagement to his “jaded, shallow, conceited” sister.
So, yeah, Camilla makes a fair point …
“It’s nice to have something that is uplifting rather than depressing,” she continued. “Everything was just perfect, including the wedding, which couldn’t have been better. It was a beautiful day.”
