Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Are So Perfect for Each Other It Made This Astrologer Mad
Welcome to The Fault in Our Stars' Stars, a recurring column wherein we dig into the astrological compatibility — or lack thereof — of your favorite celebrity couples.
You know that one couple you love to hate, because they're just that good together? Except you can't actually hate them because they're genuinely lovely, interesting, and talented people? Yeah, we're talking about Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.
They've got all of the elusive qualities of a Hollywood "It" couple: Attractive? Check. Hilarious? Check. Through the roof chemistry? Check. Did we say "extremely hot" already because, you bet, check.
Given their star signs, we should've seen their smolder coming from a mile away. That's right, according to astrology, which we may trust more than we should, Virgo (Lively) and Scorpio (Reynolds) are extremely compatible.
For InStyle's weekly astrological compatibility column, The Fault In Our Stars' Stars, we teamed up with Courtney Perkins of the freakishly accurate (and hilarious) @notallgeminis astrological Instagram account to break down why this cute couple is almost too good to be true.
Lively, 31, first stole our hearts on Gossip Girl, on which she played a beautiful, statuesque trust-fund teen, Serena van der Woodsen. Since her breakout role, she has starred as subsequent beautiful, statuesque characters in films like The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, A Simple Favor, and that shark movie, The Shallows.
Reynolds and his sheepish, heart-melting grin have been on the scene for decades now, with starring roles in films like Just Friends and Van Wilder. Though it's his recurring role as the pessimistic superhero Deadpool that's cemented the 42-year-old in Hollywood's hearts.
In 2018, the actor also bought a majority stake in Aviation Gin, earning his wife's support and unrelenting ridicule.
Virgo: According to Compatible Astrology, "Virgos value perfection in themselves and at times can be very self critical, so having a partner love them unconditionally brings about a healthy and well-rounded Virgo."

Scorpio: "If treated well, Scorpios are among the most genuine and loyal partners of any sign, and also among the most nurturing," reads Compatible Astrology. "The only time that problems arise is when a partner can't or won't commit to them. The only bad thing about Scorpios is that they give you everything, and they want the same in exchange."
For a couple of trolls, these two sure are good looking (are we driving that point home hard enough?). Reynolds's and Blake's favorite pastime is goading each other on Instagram — whether they're cropping each other out of photos, ribbing each other in interviews, or insinuating that Blake is actually engaged to a ghost.
But as much as they mock, there's always an undercurrent of love. Take, for example, the time that Reynolds referred to his wife as an "alien" and the "the most interesting thing about me" all in the same breath.
The pair met in 2010 on the set of Green Lantern, at a period in time when Reynolds was dealing with a divorce from his first wife, Scarlett Johansson. In 2011 — the same year that Reynolds's divorce was finalized — it was reported for the first time that he had begun dating Lively. They married a year later, in 2012, and welcomed their first daughter, James, in 2014. Two years later, they welcomed their second daughter, Inez.
Yes, they're cute.
And yes, Reynolds has jokes about them too:
The compatibility breakdown:
"I remember doing their charts once and being like 'fuck,'" Perkins told InStyle of Reynolds and Lively's too-compatible-to-be-true relationship. "Virgo and Scorpio are extremely compatible signs because they both place such a high value on loyalty and commitment," she continues.
"Other signs sometimes flinch in the face of the devotion these guys can offer, but a wild Scorpio (Ryan) finds a home in domestic queen Virgo (Blake)."
In essence, these two just have too much love to give, and no one is better equipped to handle it than they are. If their astrological charts are correct (and when has astrology ever let us down?!), they're in it for the long haul.
