If you have a Sunday night TV void to fill now that The Affair and Homeland have wrapped up their seasons, don’t worry—Showtime’s still got you covered. The network’s newest drama, Billions, premieres on Sunday (Jan. 17) at 10 p.m. ET, and it’s packing more than enough money, power, and glamour to keep you glued to the screen.

Starring Damian Lewis as shady hedge fund banker Bobby Axelrod, Malin Akerman as his mega-rich wife Lara, and Paul Giamatti as U.S. District Attorney, the show promises to deliver a major dose of drama. InStyle recently caught up with Akerman at a Target Wonderland event in New York City, and she revealed why the show will keep you on your toes. “It’s full of twists and turns and [games of] cat and mouse,” she said. “It’s like House of Cards meets Wolf of Wall Street, and there are so many strong characters.” Scroll down for five things that Akerman revealed about Billions.

1. She was ready to take on a more serious role.
Akerman left her comedy chops behind to play Lara Axelrod, but she had no problem tapping into her more dramatic side. “That first table read when we all sat around and went through the script was one of my favorite things,” she said. “Just to see it come to life, I sat there and thought, ‘Yes! This is where I want to be.’”

2. Damian Lewis is a jokester IRL.
The Homeland star has quite the sense of humor off-screen, despite being known for playing super-serious characters. (We’re looking at you, Brody.) "Damian is a class act and an incredible actor,” said Akerman. “I have learned so much just from watching him and acting with him, but he’s also a goofball and a joker and we have so much fun together."

3. She and Lewis had instant chemistry.
For the onscreen spouses, sparks flew immediately on set. “To playing someone’s wife, you have to make sure the chemistry is there—and it was from day one,” she said. “It was, ‘I like you this is going to be fun.’” But filming their romantic scenes together still proved to be awkward at times, Akerman pointed out. “It’s so weird when all you can hear are the kissing sounds!”

4. Her character’s closet will make you jealous.
If the title of the show tells you anything, it’s that money is no object—and that means the fashion is impressive. Akerman’s character, Lara, has a particularly enviable wardrobe. "I get the most amazing costumes,” she said. “Everything is bought at Barneys and Neiman Marcus, so I wear a lot of beautiful leather jackets, and expensive shoes and bags. They’re things that I actually don’t own in real life, which makes them fun to wear and pretend.”

5. She wears her favorite piece to an unlikely event onscreen.
Akerman loved one look in particular when filming the show’s first season: a black statement coat. “I have a thing for black,” she said. “And It sounds really weird, but my favorite piece was this amazing coat that I wore in a funeral scene. It was a beautiful, long coat that had almost a cloak on top."
