Get a First Look at HBO's New Miniseries Big Little Lies, Starring Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and More
It's finally here. The trailer for HBO and Reese Witherspoon's much-anticipated miniseries, Big Little Lies, dropped today, and we couldn't be more excited.
The miniseries, based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty ($10; amazon.com), tells the story of two moms, Celeste Wright (Nicole Kidman) and Madeline Martha Mackenzie (Witherspoon) who take in a young single mom (Shailene Woodley) under their wing, but not without a few consequences. Although the trailer doesn't give much away, we can expect plenty of steamy scenes (this is HBO after all), a possible murder, and gorgeous shots of the potentially dangerous coastline.
Witherspoon teamed up with her Wild director, Jean-Marc Vallée, for the HBO series, which was created by her own production company, Pacific Standard. The show co-stars Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood), Laura Dern (Wild), Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation), Zoë Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road), and James Tupper (Revenge).

This is Witherspoon's first major foray into the television world since her (hilarious) guest-starring role on Friends as Rachel Green's (Jennifer Aniston) younger sister Jill. Although she starred in HBO's TV movie Hemingway and Gellhorn back in 2012, Nicole Kidman hasn't appeared in a television show role since the 1980s, according to IMDb. Woodley, however, is a TV vet, her breakout role happening on the small screen with Secret Life of the American Teenager.
Witherspoon and her production company have a knack for turning amazing books into amazing film adaptations, so we have pretty high hopes for this project, which premieres in February 2017 on HBO.
