Don't Miss the Best White House Photos of 2015
At the start of every new year since President Obama went into office, the White House photographer Pete Souza releases a set of the previous year's best snaps. Not only are they sweeping, iconic, and heartwarming, they're also downright laugh out loud funny at times.
All of which is to say, that the pictures are not be missed. Souza published the gallery for the seventh consecutive year a few days ago on Medium under the title "Behind the Lens: 2015 in Photographs." The 100+ photographs were chosen for historic moments as much as for light and composition. And sometimes, as he pointed out, there's simply just a star. ("I’ve included a couple of photographs of the President with Ella Rhodes, because she was certainly the best subject of the year," Souza said.) Best of all, Souza provides captions for each image, lending an intimate feel (and portrait) into the lives of the President of the United States, the First Lady, and his family. Such as, for the sweet moment POTUS and Michelle Obama shared in March above, Souza wrote: "The First Lady snuggled against the President during a video taping for the 2015 World Expo in the Diplomatic Reception Room of the White House."
Find out who exactly Ella Rhodes is and see some of our select favorites below, accompanied by Souza's captions.
Feb. 23, 2015 “The President’s daughter Malia stopped by the Oval Office one afternoon to see her dad and, while they were talking, she wiped something from his face.” (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)
“I was moving around trying to capture different scenes away from the stage during the event to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday and the Selma to Montgomery civil rights marches. When I glanced back towards the stage, I noticed the President and First Lady holding hands as they listened to the remarks of Rep. John Lewis. I managed to squeeze off a couple of frames before they began to applaud, and the moment was gone.” (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)
March 19, 2015 “I thought it was an interesting juxtaposition focused on just the feet as the President sat on the Resolute Desk during a casual meeting with from left, Beth Cobert, OMB Deputy Director for Management, Valerie Green, Director of Presidential Personnel and Anita Decker Breckenridge, Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations.” (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)
