Bella Hadid Just Responded to Body Shamers Who Called Her "Too Skinny"
Even supermodel Bella Hadid is not immune to body shaming.
The 22-year-old recently shared a few sexy snaps on Instagram from her Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show fittings, and let’s just say her followers had a lot to say about them. In the photos, Hadid poses in a black lingerie set that reveals her rib cage and a pair of knee-high snakeskin boots.
She captioned the post, “@victoriassecret fittings today. I can’t wait for you to see all of the beautiful outfits ...i’m so grateful to be a part of the show again, feeling happier and healthier than ever."
The photos caused quite a stir online, and probably not for the reasons that she was hoping. Many of Hadid's followers commented that she looked "so skinny" and "too thin." Another follower wrote, "someone get this lady a burger."
According to People, the model later amended her caption to address the comments being made about her body. "All body types are different and react differently to a great workout routine and a healthy diet," she added in parentheses.
Victoria’s Secret has been criticized for only casting sample size models in their annual fashion shows, so the attacks on Hadid aren't entirely surprising. Even though many have called for the brand to be more size-inclusive, VS has yet to feature a plus-size model on the runway. From the looks of the 2018 lineup, this year won't be any different.
This isn’t the first time that Hadid has had to defend herself online. In April, she replied to a troll who accused her and fellow model Kendall Jenner of having plastic surgery. Even her older sister Gigi has dealt with her fair share of body-shaming. Back in February, the elder Hadid sister slammed critics of her fluctuating weight explaining that her thin frame was due to Hashimoto’s disease, which affects her thyroid function.
Keep your heads up, Hadids.
