Clare Crawley Is the Next Bachelorette
The announcement was made on Monday's episode of Good Morning America.
Peter Weber’s season of The Bachelor isn’t even over, but we already have a 2020 Bachelorette!
On Monday’s episode of Good Morning America, hours ahead of that evening’s Bachelor installment, Good Morning America revealed the identity of the franchise’s new leading lady: Clare Crawley.
"I literally just found out," Crawley admitted after the cat was out of the bag. "So unexpected, can you believe this? Six years later? What is happening?"
Even though she only just found out about her new role, the newest Bachelorette star already knows what she's looking for in a man as well.
"I want a man that will take off his armor," she explained. "I want a man that is strong but is willing to take off the body armor, open themselves up and be vulnerable. I think that is some serious strength right there."
Even still, she added that it's what's on the inside that counts, ultimately.
"The biggest thing for me is, honestly, it’s all what’s on the inside for me," she added. "The outside, if you line up all the guys I’ve dated in the past, there’s no one type physically. It’s more, if they go out of their way for me, if they make me feel special. This is about me now. I’m ready for it."
Crawley made her first appearance in 2014 on season 18 of The Bachelor. She was one of the final two contestants before the pair called it quits after Crawley's very public spat with Juan Pablo Galavis, when she said she had "lost respect" for him.
"I am that strong woman still," she said of her time on the show. "But even more so what is added to that is, like I said, taking off that armor and actually saying I’m strong enough to let someone in and be vulnerable and open up and share that with them."
Ahead of the big reveal, there was speculation regarding several other former contestants. Tayshia Adams, Tia Booth, and Kelsey Weier (of #ChampagneGate fame) were all flagged as potential Bachelorette picks by spoiler overlord Reality Steve.
FWIW, Pilot Pete was rooting for Kelsey (and also Mykenna … ). “I hope they do find that love soon,” he told E! of the “very deserving” women from his season whom he didn’t end up with.
