In news that may or may not make you cry (depending on how your week is going), Ariana Grande has covered up her Pete Davidson ring finger tattoo. But if you’re a glass half-full kind of person, take solace in this: it’s not permanent (yet).

Grande made her first post-breakup appearance on Tuesday at a tribute to Broadway musical Wicked on its 15-year anniversary. The singer taped her performance of “The Wizard and I” (which will air in two weeks on NBC) in an Elphaba-inspired look that included an emerald green dress, matching lipstick, and a metallic green manicure.

Though most of her accessories followed the evening’s theme, TMZ noticed one interesting outlier. The singer’s left ring finger, upon which she once bore the cursive scrawl of “pete,” is now decorated with a beige band-aid.

OK, considering it’s been mere days since the split, it makes sense that she wouldn’t want to show off the permanent etching of her ex-fiance’s name on the finger that once housed the pear-shaped engagement ring she’s since returned to Davidson. Logical. It also makes sense that she wouldn’t have had it removed or covered in the past two to three days. That being said, as an internationally-recognized superstar who spends more on her monthly rent than I make in a year, she certainly could have had it altered or removed. It’s a stretch, but we’re going to take this as a sign that Ariana and Pete’s split is temporary (like their respective S.O. tats probably should have been).
