Anya Taylor-Joy’s Plunging SAG Awards Look Was Inspired By Retro Nightgowns
Beth Harmon would wear it in a heartbeat.
Following a jaw-dropping Golden Globes debut, The Queen's Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy is making a name for herself as a red carpet darling. For the 2021 SAG Awards, the actress not only lived up to the high standards set by her previous looks of the season — she exceeded them.
"Anya's wearing custom Vera Wang," her stylist for the evening, Law Roach, told InStyle over the phone. The lace-trimmed minidress toes the line between edgy and elegant, and according to Roach, it was inspired by the glamour of vintage nightgowns: "Her look feels very high-end nighttime dressing gown. It almost feels like an underpinning, but the silhouette of it is very much a cocktail dress."
Roach paired the pink and black number with $800,000 worth of mixed-cut diamonds from Tiffany & Co (yes, you read that right). "I wanted her look to feel a bit retro, but at the same time sexy," he said.
The Internet can't get enough of the look's plunging neckline and ultra-low back. This Twitter user summed it up succinctly: "ANYA TAYLOR-JOY YOU'RE STUNNING."
Taylor-Joy is nominated for Female Actor in a Miniseries for her critically acclaimed performance as Beth Harmon. Maybe we're reading into it, but this dress looks like something the chess prodigy would wear in an alternate version of that unforgettable pajama-dancing scene.
