Happy birthday today to Annie Lennox! The Scottish singer-turned-political activist and philanthropist is perhaps best known for her musical collaborations with David A. Stewart in the 1980s as Eurythmics. Receiving a total of eight Brit awards during her career, including Best British Female Artist six times, Lennox's contributions to music and social causes make the musician worthy of some major birthday cheer.

Born on Christmas day in 1954, the 61-year-old has a lot to celebrate after having spent more than 30 fruitful years in the music industry. Today, she's still making music and, in 2014, she released her sixth solo album, called Nostalgia.

Outside of producing music, Lennox has gained a reputation as an advocate for those living with AIDS, as well as having been a public supporter of Amnesty International and Greenpeace for years. Not only that, but Lennox has also made use of her musical ability to help raise funds for important causes, such as in 2007 when she sang "Bridge Over Troubled Water" during the American Idol "Idol Gives Back" fundraising drive.

Here's to Lennox on her birthday. After years of contributing to music and dedicating her time to bettering the world, the singer most definitely deserves to be celebrated. Happy birthday, Annie!
