The accidental slip became a "charming moment."

Anne Hathaway is reminiscing over The Princess Diaries — and a particular fan-favorite moment in the movie she says was completely unscripted.

In a clip from ABC's special honoring director Garry Marshall, who passed away in 2016, Hathaway discussed a scene in which Mia Thermopolis and best friend Lily are talking on the bleachers, and Mia slips and falls.

"We were filming in San Francisco, predictably it had rained," Hathaway recalled. "We were outside, and we had to get the shot really fast because we were losing light. And we had to go on these bleachers and they did their best to wipe them down."

However, during one take of the scene, Hathaway "turned really fast" and slipped on a puddle, falling and burst out laughing. Marshall, according to Hathaway, kept the scene because it turned out to be a "charming moment."

"One of the things that I love about Garry is that he was never afraid of the spontaneous moment," Hathaway said. "If it was good, it was in the movie. He didn't care where it came from, he didn't care what happened."

All the credit to Marshall and to Hathaway for laughing off a fall, like a true Genovian queen.

Between this and her Princess Diaries take on the Pillow Challenge, Anne Hathaway has emerged as the queen of our quarantine nostalgia.
